Biography

William Thompson graduated from McGill University in 1928 with a bachelor of science and arts. In 1924-26 he won three consecutive intercollegiate cross-country ski championships. For two years, he was captain of the Redmen, McGill’s athletic team. In the 10-mile cross-country race of the 1927 Canadian Championships, he finished second and was the first Canadian to finish. In 1928, he was one of the founders of the McGill Redbirds Ski Club. The club was instrumental in the promotion of skiing in Quebec. Thompson served for four years as the club’s president. In 1934, he was appointed president of the Canadian Ski Association. Later, he became president of the Royal Montreal Golf Club.
