Flatwater canoeist Jürgen Lehnert won the bronze medal at the 1976 Montréal Olympics with the East German K-4 1,000 squad. He also won a bronze and gold medal at the Flatwater Worlds with the K-4 1,000 in 1973 and 1974 respectively. Lehnert later became a coach at SC Magdeburg and, after German re-unification, worked as a taxi driver and manager. Lehnert’s parents were youth coaches at his home club BSG Lok Magdeburg.
