Biography

Flatwater canoeist Rudolf Blaß was a member of the West German K-4 1,000 metres at the 1972 München Olympics, which finished fifth in the final. Four years later in Montréal he failed to reach the finals in the K-2 500 and the K-2 1,000 (with Erich Pasch). He won two silver medals at World Championships: in 1971 with the K-4 1,000 (with Pasch, Rainer Hennes, and Eberhard Fischer ), and in 1973 with the K-4 10,000 (with Pasch, Horst Mattern, and Fischer).

Blaß won the West German championships from 1972-76 in the K-1 (500), and with the K-2 500, and in 1974-75 with SV Neckarsulm 4x500 K-1. In the 1,000 metres he won national titles in the K-2 from 1973-75, and with Neckarsulm in the K-4 in 1972, 1974 and 1975. By profession, Blaß was a tax officer at the tax authorities of Saarlouis.
