Biography

Ice hockey forward Helfried Winger played with Wiener (Vienna) Eislauf-Verein (1937-39), Wiener (Vienna) EG (1939-40), LTTC Berlin in Germany (1943-44), and EK Engelmann Wien (Vienna) (1945-48). Winger won the Austrian national title in 1946.

Winger also played for Austria at the 1947 World Championships, helping them to a bronze medal. As the Worlds doubled as the European Championships in that era, he also gained the European bronze. At the 1948 St. Moritz Winter Olympics the Austrian team finished seventh.
