Biography

Rover Huck Woodman suited up with the Winnipeg Junior Hockey League’s Tigers and Canadian-Ukrainian Athletic Club during World War I and competed in the playoffs for the first Memorial Cup, given annually to the junior men’s ice hockey champions in Canada, with the latter team in 1919. Although this honor eluded him as a junior, he was a member of the Winnipeg Falcons the following year when they captured the senior version of the trophy, the 1920 Allan Cup. This victory led the squad’s selection as representatives for Canada at the 1920 Summer Olympic ice hockey tournament, where Woodman scored one goal in two matches and helped his country bring home the gold medal. He was the only person on the team who was not of Icelandic ancestry. Following the tournament he remained with the Falcons until 1924, but finished out his career in two games played with the Selkirk Fishermen during the 1924-1925 season. Later in life he managed a paint company.
