The 1991 World Championship bronze medalist Matthias Röder was a German flatwater canoeist who finished an unfortunate fourth in the C1 over 1,000 metres at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. He added another bronze, and a gold medal, at the 1993 and 1997 World Championships. After German reunification Röder moved to Wolfsburg.
