Biathlon at the 1994 Winter Olympics

Dates 15 – 25 February 1994
Medal Events 6

The 1994 biathlon competition was held at the Birkerbeineren Ski Stadium, the famous Nordic ski centre in Lillehammer, located in Lillehammer Olympiapark. There was almost no change to the program, with men and women competing in three events – the classical individual distance, a sprint event, and a relay. The only change was in the women’s relay. In Albertville, this had been conducted at 3 x 7.5 km while in Lillehammer it was expanded to the same format as the men’s race, 4 x 7.5 km.

One man won three medals in biathlon at Lillehammer, Sergey Tarasov of Russia, with a gold in the classical, bronze in the sprint, and silver in the relay. Among the women, the star was Canada’s Myriam Bédard, who won gold medals in both individual events. The courses for biathlon were difficult with the biggest height differential and total climbing in Winter Olympic history thru 2006.
