An original 1964 Olympic venue, Baji Koen Equestrian Park (馬事公苑) made a reappearance at the 2020 Olympics as a venue for many of the equestrian events. The venue hosted the entirety of both dressage events. Germany won both team and individual golds for the first time since 1996 - as well as individual silver too. Isabell Werth, already the most successful Olympic equestrian in history, won her 7th gold and 12th overall medal to stretch her lead in those categories, although the outstanding rider in Tokyo was her compatriot Jessica von Bredow-Werndl and the horse TSF Dalera. Werth matched Aladar Gerevich and Birgit Fischer-Schmidt by winning gold medals in six Olympic Games with her part in the team victory. For Werth and Gerevich, this was achieved in consecutive Olympics.
