Handball at the 2020 Summer Olympics

Both the men’s and the women’s field handball tournament at the 2020 Summer Olympics took place at the Yoyogi National Gymnasium, Yoyogi Park, Shibuya in Tokyo. As in the previous Olympic Games, there were two groups with six teams each. The best eight teams determined the medal winners in knock-out matches. The semi-finals in the women’s tournament were a European affair. In the men’s tournament, Egypt reached the semi-finals as the only non-European country. Finally, both tournaments were won by France, as they became the first country since Yugoslavia in 1984 to win both titles at the same Olympics.
