Foxhunter was a bay gelding who rode under Harry Llewellyn at the 1948 and 1952 Olympic Games, helping him to a gold and bronze medal in team jumping. Llewellyn acquired him as a 6-year-old. Shortly after the London Olympics, the pair won the King George V Gold Cup at London’s International Horse Show. They would win that show again in 1950 and 1953, and Foxhunter was the only horse in the 20th century to achieve that hat trick. Together they were on 12 winning Nations Cup teams. Thanks to Llewellyn the horse’s name has lived on in the Foxhunter Jumping Championships in Britain, which is used to introduce young horses and riders to top level competition.
