Older records list him as American but Ericksen was still a Norwegian citizen in 1904. In the final, Ericksen defeated Bill Beckman, who was likely the favorite as the 1903 AAU Champion. There is no record of a third-place match or tournament, but third-place was awarded to Jerry Winholtz.
