The women’s halfpipe competition at Milano Cortina 2026 featured a mix of established champions and emerging talent. Much of the pre-event attention focused on American Chloe Kim, aiming to defend her title for an unprecedented third time, whose dominance of the discipline over the previous decade had made her the rider to beat. World Champion runner-up Sara Shimizu and Mitsuki Ono, the 2025 World Championship bronze medalist, both of Japan, were also seen as medal contenders.
The expected competitors advanced through the qualifying round and in the medal round, the riders steadily increased the difficulty of their tricks as the competition progressed. After a strong first run, Kim appeared to be on track to capture the gold once again until the final run, when South Korea’s Choi Ga-On put up the highest score, a 90.25, to catapult her into the gold medal position. Her gold medal was confirmed after Kim fell in her final run, earning South Korea its first ever gold medal in snowboarding, with Kim taking silver, and Ono the bronze.
