Russia’s Anastasiya Pavlyuchenkova and Andrey Rublyov were the reigning champions from 2021, but neither of them chose to compete in this edition of the Summer Games. In their absence, Germany’s Laura Siegemund and Alexander Zverev were seeded No.1, but they lost in the first round to Czechia’s Kateřina Siniaková and Tomáš Macháč, the eventual gold medalists. It was Czechia’s first Olympic mixed doubles medal, and Siniaková’s second Olympic gold, after winning the women’s doubles in 2021. A doubles specialist, Siniaková had won nine Grand Slam trophies prior to the Paris Olympics.
In the bronze medal match, Canada’s Gaby Dabrowski and Félix Auger-Aliassime defeated Demi Schuurs and Wesley Koolhof of the Netherlands. It was Canada’s second Olympic medal in this event. About four months after the 2024 Paris Olympics, Dabrowski revealed that she had breast cancer. She also revealed that she had been diagnosed prior to the Olympics but delayed chemotherapy treatment of the breast cancer to enable her to play in Paris.
