The Russians had won every event they had entered since the 2000 Olympics and were expected to win easily. They did so. The only suspense came in the final routine when the PA system failed and their music stopped shortly into their routine. They were allowed to re-start, after which the chase for the gold medal was over. Japan repeated their silver medal performance from 2000. The American team won the bronze, returning to the podium after they have missed out in 2000.
