Biography

August, brother of Alfons Lütke Westhues, won the silver medal with the West German three-day event team on Trux von Kamax at the 1956 Stockholm Equestrian Olympics and also took the silver medal in the individual event. Both brothers were born under the name Hohenbrink but took the name of their mother in 1947. August won a silver medal at the European Championships in both 1954 and 1957, when he also won the individual silver. He crowned his career in 1959, however, when he won the team gold medal at Harewood, England. He retired in 1961 and took over his father’s farm. In 1989 he became president of the Riding Association of North Rhine Westphalia.
