Biography

Hans-Jürgen Hehn was a West German épée fencer who earned two silver medals in team and individual épée at the 1976 Montréal Olympics. Four years earlier in München the team was eliminated in the first round, while individually he failed to reach the fourth round. At the World Championships Hehn won three team medals in 1973 (gold), and 1974 and 1975 (silver). During the 1970s he was #1 on the world rankings for a time and won several World Cup tournaments. Domestically, he won the West German national épée title in 1972, and the foil title in 1974, and he was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, the highest sports award in Germany.

By profession, Hehn was a medical doctor and became the West German fencing team doctor at several World Championships and Olympic Games. He was also engaged with the German Fencing Association DFeB. His own practice was located at Lauda-Königshofen.
