Biography

Coach to the 1956 Great Britain water polo team, Edwin Wright also coached the Birkenhead Swimming and Water Polo Club. Wright served on the Liverpool & District, Cheshire County, and Northern Counties Water Polo and Swimming Associations and was chairman of the latter in 1961. Wright also had a passion for football and was a member of the Wirral Football Association, and served on the Cheshire County League management committee. He was also a director of the English Football League club Tranmere Rovers for the ten years prior to his death. By profession, Wright worked for a Birkenhead motor dealership until 1954, when the company was sold.
