Biography

Ioan Popa was a Romanian épée fencer who competed at the 1976 and 1980 Olympics. He was sixth individually in 1980 and finished fourth with the team that year. Popa competed for CS Steaua. He was a three-time Romanian Champion, winning in 1976-77 and 1979. Popa also won team gold medals at the Universiade in 1977 and 1981 and added a bronze medal with the team in 1979. Popa was appointed emeritus master of sport in 1982.
