Biography

Mitch Gaylord attended UCLA and was US Champion in all-around in 1983 and 1984, also winning the 1984 NCAA all-around title. At the 1984 Olympics Gaylord led the US men’s team to the gold medal and won three apparatus medals, silver on vault, and bronze on parallel bars and rings. After the Olympics the telegenic Gaylord went into acting, notably starring in the gymnastics movie American Anthem opposite Janet Jones (later Wayne Gretzky’s wife). He was also a stunt double for Chris O’Donnell in the 1995 movie Batman Forever. Gaylord frequently appeared on Hollywood Squares and appeared in advertisements for Diet Coke, Nike, Vidal Sassoon, Soloflex, Levi’s, and Texaco. He later worked in finance with Morgan Stanley Smith Barney. Gaylord became a member of the UCLA Hall of Fame in 1995, the US Olympic Hall of Fame in 2006, and the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 2009.
