Biography

During the 1960s José Miguel Espinosa was one of the best freestyle swimmers in Spain. Espinosa won six national titles and broke six individual national records, along with 13 relay records. His first international success came at the 1963 Mediterranean Games, where he won bronze in the 100 metres freestyle and the 4 × 100 metres medley relay. These performances earned him a place on the Olympic team for the 1964 Tokyo Games where he came 12th with the Spanish team in the 4 × 100 metres medley relay. Three years later Espinosa was part of the team that won gold in the 4 × 100 metres freestyle relay at the 1967 Mediterranean Games.
