Biography

Donald Bland had the following podium finishes at major championships: 3rd in the 1950 British Empire Games 4×220 yards Freestyle Relay (with Jack Hale, Pat Kendall, and the non-Olympian Ray Legg). Bland also finished fourth in the 1950 British Empire Games 1650 yards Freestyle and sixth in the 1950 British Empire Games 440 yards Freestyle. In the 1954 British Empire and Commonwealth Games he finished fourth in the 4×220 yards freestyle relay (with Haydn Rigby, Peter Head, and Ronald Roberts), fifth in the 1650 yards freestyle, but was eliminated in the heats of the 440 yards freestyle. In the British Empire Games he competed for England.
