Biography

Bärbel Fuhrmann from Rostock in former East Germany won a bronze medal at the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome as a member of the 4x100m medley relay team; she was eliminated in the preliminaries in 100m butterfly. From 1960-62, Fuhrmann won the East German national titles in the 100m butterfly, and in 1963 over 200m butterfly. By profession, Fuhrmann became a teacher and deputy principal at a special needs school in Rostock.
