Biography

German swimmer Gertrud Herrbruck reached the final of the 100 metres backstroke at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics and finished sixth of eight. In 1950 she won the silver medal at the European Championships in Vienna. She also won eight individual national titles. For her sporting performances she was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf, only the second German woman ever to receive the award. Together with her husband she owned a photo shop at Pirmasens.
