Biography

Freestyle swimmer Dirk Braunleder won two silver medals at the 1975 Cali World Championships, with the West German 4x100 freestyle and the 4x100 medley relays, although he only swam in the heats. It was the same at the 1976 Montréal Olympics, when he swam in the heats with the 4x100 medley team but missed out on a place in the final squad, which won the bronze medal. In the individual 100 metres freestyle event he was eliminated in the heats.

Braunleder studied sports science with a focus on sports medicine and journalism. He then started voluntary and freelance work at Radio Bremen, where he became a sports and current affairs reporter. In 1991 he started working for the German broadcaster Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR) in the fields of sports and actual themes.
