Biography

Czech-born swimmer Josef Hladky defected to West Germany during the World Championships at Madrid in 1986. Earlier he had won one silver and three bronze medals at the European Championships representing Czechoslovakia. He participated at the 1992 Barcelona Summer Games representing his new homeland Germany. He was eliminated in the heats of the 200 IM. Hladky later added another bronze over 200 IM, and a gold medal, at the Short Course Europeans in 1991.

In January 1998, Hladky took over the management as the sole shareholder of pool construction company Hildenbrand GmbH and from then concentrated on swimming pool construction.
