Biography

Vladislav Kulikov, one of the top butterfly swimmers in the world at the start of the 1990s, made his international début at the 1991 World Championships, where he won silver in the medley relay and a bronze in the 100 fly. At the 1991 European Championships, Kulikov won both the 100 butterfly and medley relay and went to the 1992 Olympics as one of the medal contenders in the 100 metre butterfly. In Barcelona Kulikov finished only eighth in the 100 fly final, but won silver as a member of the Unified Team’s medley relay team. At the 1993 European Championships and 1994 World Championships, Kulikov was less successful, placing fifth in 1993 and third in a B-final in 1994 in the 100 butterfly and did not medal as a member of Russian relay teams. Kulikov medaled again at the 1996 Olympics, however, winning bronze in the 100 butterfly and another silver in the medley relay. After the 1996 Olympics, Kulikov won four more international tournament medals, all as a member of various Russian relay teams. At the 1997 European Championships he was on the winning medley relay team, while at the 1998 World Championships he won bronze in the 4x100 free relay. At the 1999 European Championships Kulikov won bronze in the medley relay. Despite this, Kulikov was not selected for the 2000 Russian Olympic team and made his last international appearance at the 2001 World Championships, where he again won bronze as a member of the Russian medley relay team.

Personal Best: 50 m butterfly – 24.14 (2001); 100 m butterfly – 52.69 (2001).
