Biography

Bengt Gingsjö was a Swedish swimmer who competed at two Olympic Games. At the 1972 München Olympics Gingsjö finished in fourth place in the 1,500 metres freestyle and the 4 × 200 metres freestyle relay. At the same Games, Gingsjö finished in sixth place in the 400 metres freestyle and the 400 metres Individual medley. Four years later, Gingsjö also swam at the 1976 Montréal Olympics. Gingsjö’s best result was seventh in the 4 × 200 metres freestyle relay. Individually, Gingsjö’s highest placing was 27th in the 200 metres freestyle.

Outside of the Olympics, Gingsjö won the bronze medal in the 400 metres freestyle at the 1973 World Championships. At the 1974 European Championships, Gingsjö won silver and bronze in the 400 metres freestyle and the 4×200 metres freestyle, respectively.
