Biography

Alla Grishchenkova, the best Soviet female butterfly swimmer at the end of 1970s, competed at three major international tournaments during her career: the 1977 European Championships, the 1978 World Championships, and the 1980 Olympics. She medaled only at the 1980 Olympics, however, winning bronze in the medley relay. Her best individual result was also from the 1980 Olympics, when she was eighth in the 200 fly. Domestically, Grishchenkova won four Soviet titles, doubling in the 100/200 fly in 1978-79. She also won two silver medals at the Soviet championships, the 1977 100 fly and the 1978 4x100 free relay.

Personal Best: 100 m butterfly – 1:03.49 (1979); 200 m butterfly – 2:15.70 (1980).
