Biography

In 1971, Deena Deardurff won the 100m butterfly at the Pan American Games and won both the indoor and the outdoor title at the AAUs. At the München Olympics she missed out on a bronze medal in the 100m butterfly by a narrow margin, but won a gold medal and a share of a world record in the medley relay. Later, as Mrs. Robert Schmidt, she coached age group swimmers in San Diego and competed in master’s events.
