Biography

Ann Simmons attended Long Beach City College and then UCLA. A distance specialist, Simmons won a gold medal in the 400 freestyle at the 1971 Pan American Games. She won AAU titles in the 1971 400 free and the 1970 200 free. In September 1971 Simmons set a world record of 8:59.4 for the 800 metre freestyle at a meet in Minsk, Belarus in the Soviet Union. She later became a swim coach for the U Cal Irvine women’s swim team.
