After placing sixth in the individual 100m freestyle, Mike Austin won a gold medal in the 4x100 freestyle relay at the 1964 Olympics, which he later donated to his alma mater, Yale. He was one of three Yale men on that world record breaking relay squad. Austin won the NCAA 50 yard freestyle in 1964 and helped Yale win the 4x100 yard free relay in both 1963 and 1964.
