Biography

Volleyball player Renate Riek was a member of the West German women’s team at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics that finished sixth after losing the match for fifth place against Korea. Riek won 518 international caps and participated in six European and three World Championships. In 1991, she won the bronze medal at the Europeans.

Riek played with TuS Stuttgart (1974-80), SV Lohhof (1980-84, German Champion 1982-84, and German Cup Winner 1982-84), CJD Feuerbach (1984-92, German Champion 1989-91, and German Cup Winner 1987-90), TSG Tübingen (1992-96), MTV Stuttgart (1996-2007) and Allianz Volley Stuttgart (2007-09). Finally, she was co-trainer and manager at Stuttgart in her last active years.

In 1987, Riek was named Volleyball Player of the Year in Germany. By profession, she became a graduated graphic designer and took part in several competitions for the design of German postage stamps, and won the competition for the draft of the series Für den Sport in 1997.
