Biography

Between 1952 and 1954 Ferenc Jánosi was a volleyball player of Miskolci Előre, then between 1955 and 1958 of Miskolci VSC, and finally between 1959 and 1973 of Újpesti Dózsa. With the Újpest team, he won seven Hungarian championships and three Hungarian Cups. In 1962, he was a member of the team finished third in the Volleyball European Champion Clubs’ Cup.

Between 1957 and 1970, he played in 196 matches for the Hungarian national team. He was a member of the team that finished in sixth place at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. He was also silver medalist at the European championship in 1963, and at the Universiade in 1965. He played at a total of four World Championships and three European Championships.

Between 1970 and 1973, he was the player-coach of Újpesti Dózsa. Between 1975 and 1978, he was the head coach of the Dózsa men’s team. In 1975, he led the Újpest team to the championship title and cup victory. From 1991, he was the coach of the BVSC men’s team.

Between 1975 and 1982, he was a board member of the volleyball department of Újpest Dózsa, a board member of the Hungarian Volleyball Association, and a member of the Hungarian NOC from 1989. In 1985, he was awarded the title of hereditary champion of the Újpest Dozsa. His daughter, Zsuzsa, won a bronze medal in team fencing at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. His wife, Anikó Ducza, won a bronze medal in the gymnasts’ floor competition in Tokyo in 1964. In 1956, he graduated from the Land and Mine Surveying Technical College in Miskolc. In 1970, he obtained a physical education teacher’s certificate at the College of Physical Education.
