Biography

Vera Duyunova (until 1969 Galushka) started to play volleyball in 1961 with Dynamo Krasnodar, where she played until 1965. From 1965-75, Duyunova played with Spartak Toshkent. Duyunova played with the Soviet national team from 1966-74 and won two Olympic golds (1968, 1972), and a gold (1970) and silver (1974) at the World Championships. She also won golds at the 1973 World Cup and 1973 Universiade. After finishing her sporting career, Duyunova worked as a volleyball coach in Uzbekistan. She was the head coach of Soviet national girl’s volleyball team at the end of 1970s and beginning in 1982 was a director of a sports school in Toshkent. In the 1990s and 2000s, Duyunova was also the president of the Uzbekistan Olympians Association, president of the Uzbekistan Volleyball Federation, and vice-president of the Uzbekistan National Olympic Committee.
