Uwe Sterzik

Czech-born water polo player Uwe Sterzik represented West Germany at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, and re-unified Germany at the 1992 Barcelona and 1996 Atlanta Games. In 1988 the team finished fourth, losing the bronze medal match 14-13 against the Soviet Union. In 1992 they were seventh and in 1996 they placed ninth. In 1989, Sterzik was on the squad that won the gold medal at the European Championships, and in 1995 he won a bronze medal. In total, he won 342 international caps.

Sterzik played domestically with 1. Offenbacher SC, ASC Duisburg, SSF Wuppertal, Düsseldorfer SC, and finally with the Spanish club CN Teneriffa. In 1993 and 1994 he was named Water Polo Player of the Year. Sterzik then tuned to coaching and took over the German national team in 1997 before later taking charge at ASC Duisburg. In 2012 he was named Swiss national coach.
