Biography

Ðuro Savinović was a Yugoslav water polo player who competed at the 1976 Montréal Olympics, helping the team finish fifth. Savinović twice played at the World Championships, winning a bronze medal in 1973 and also playing in 1975. He added a bronze at the 1974 European Championships and a silver at the 1975 Mediterranean Games.

Domestically Savinović won two Yugoslav national titles, in 1980-81, and played on winning teams at the 1981 Yugoslav Cup and the 1980 European Champions Cup. After his playing career ended Savinović became a coach, leading Jug from 1983-89, and helping them win Yugoslav championships in 1983 and 1985 and the 1983 Yugoslav Cup, and leading them to the finals of the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1984 and 1987. He later coached in Salerno, Italy for three years; Las Palmas, Spain for a year; and Marseille, France for five years; before ending his coaching career in 2000 with Bellevue in Dubrovnik, Croatia.
