Biography

Shooting guard Stephan Baeck was on the German basketball squad that finished seventh at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics after winning the classification match versus Puerto Rico, 96-86. In total, he earned 133 international caps and was European Champion in 1993.

On the club level, Baeck played with TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen (until 1985, and 1990-92), BSC Saturn Köln (1985-90), ALBA Berlin (1992-96, 1999-2000), PAOK Thessaloniki (Greece, 1996-97), Ruhr Devils (1997-98), Brandt Hagen (1998-99), and Köln 99ers (2000-01). Baeck earned six German Championships in 1985, 1987-88, 1991-92 and 1995, and in 1991 also playing on the winning German Cup team. In 1995 he also won the Korać-Cup with Berlin which was the first European Cup ever won by a German club.

Baeck later turned to coaching and worked with RheinEnergie Köln (2002-03), Köln 99ers (2011-13), and RheinStars Köln (since 2013). In between he was sporting director and CEO of several clubs in Köln. He also acted as a commentator with German TV channel Sport1 as a basketball expert. He also owned a service company dealing with career consulting and training methods for professional sportspeople.
