Biography

Center Gunther Behnke was on the German basketball squad that finished seventh at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics after winning the classification match versus Puerto Rico, 96-86. In total, he earned 146 international caps and was European Champion in 1993.

Domestically, Behnke played with TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen (until 1992), TuS Bramsche (1992-94), ALBA Berlin (1994-96), Telekom Baskets Bonn (1996-2000), and Köln 99ers (2000-01). He earned five German Championships with Leverkusen (1985-86, 1990-92), and four more German Cups (1986-87, 1990-91). By profession, Behnke was a trained electronic information expert.
