Biography

Dorothy Wright was the only woman to compete in the Olympic yachting events in 1920 and the third female gold medalist in yachting following Hélène, Countess de Pourtalès in 1900 and Frances Rivett-Carnac in 1908. She won her Olympic gold medal as a member of the crew aboard Ancora which was jointly owned by her husband, Cyril Wright, and her father, Percy Machin. She had married Wright in 1917 during his furlough.
