Don McFarlane had the following podium finishes at major championships: 1st in the 1954 British Empire and Commonwealth Games 4×110 yards Relay (with the non-Olympians Don Stonehouse, Edward Springbett, and Harry Nelson), 2nd in the 1954 British Empire and Commonwealth Games 100 yards. In the 1954 British Empire and Commonwealth Games 220 yards McFarlane was eliminated in the heats.
