Osvaldo Lara won bronze in 100 metres at the 1983 Pan American Games after finishing sixth in 100 metres and seventh in 200 metres in 1979. He was also a member of two silver medal winning Pan American Games 4×100 metres relay teams in 1979 (with Alejandro Casañas, Silvio Leonard, and the non-Olympian Juan Saborit) and in 1983 (with Silvio Leonard and the non-Olympians José Luis Isalgué and Leandro Peñalver).
