Biography

Johannes Schmitt finished fifth with the 4x400 relay at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics and failed to reach the semifinals of the 400. At the 1962 Europeans he won gold with the 4x400 relay, which set a new European record. In 1963 and 1964 he was runner-up at the West German Championships and in 1964 won a sprint relay title. The same year Schmitt helped a West German 4x400 West German relay team set a world record.

Personal Best: 400 – 46.3 (1963).
