Biography

Manfred was the brother of Herbert Steffny, marathon bronze medalist at the 1986 European Championships. Manfred later became a sports editor, publisher and editor of the runner’s magazine Spiridon. He also worked as a trainer and manager of running seminars. In addition to the bestseller Marathon Training, Manfred Steffny has written several books on running.

Steffney finished the Olympic marathons in Mexico City (17th) and in München (31st). In 1971 he was second in the West German Championships and in 1972 finished third. During the 1960s he mostly raced 10Ks but never won a German title.

Personal Best: Mar – 2-16:45 (1972).
