Biography

Dutch track and field athlete Wim Bolten represented AV ‘23 in Amsterdam where he specialised in the shorter middle-distance races and the hurdles. In 1924 Bolten won his first national title with victory in the 800 metres. The same year he ran in both the 400 and 800 metres at the Paris Olympics but did not advance from the heats in either. He continued to have success at the Dutch championships, winning another 800 metres title in 1926, followed by back-to-back titles in the 400 metres hurdles in 1927 and 1928. Bolten’s sister Ada also competed at the Paris Olympics when she swam in the 4 × 100 metres freestyle relay.
