Biography

Simone Opitz was a cross-country skier representing East Germany at the 1988 Calgary Winter Games and re-unified Germany at Albertville in 1992. She finished fifth with both the relay and individual 20 km in 1988, which were her best results. In 1992, she placed eighth in both the relay and 30 km, which were her best finishes at Albertville. In 1986, she won her only World Cup race, in the 20 km freestyle. Nationally, she won four relay titles (one with East German, and one with Unified Germany) and two individual East German titles.
