Biography

Leena Pietilä was the top Finnish ladies single skater just after the World War II, winning seven Finnish titles in 1946-47 and 1949-53. She also competed at the 1952 Olympics, 1947 World Championships and 1950-52 European Championships, her best finishes being 13th at both the 1950 and 1951 Europeans. After finishing her sporting career, Pietilä worked as a figure skating coach in Mikkeli and as an international skating judge. Pietilä officiated at the 1980 Olympics, at the 1977, 1978 and 1979 World Championships and at several European Championships. She was also a member of the board of directors of the Finnish Figure Skating Federation for 14 years.
