Biography

Larisa Seleznyova’s and Oleg Makarov’s first big success as pairs skaters at the international level were victories at the 1980 and 1981 World Junior Championships. At their first major senior championships, the 1984 Olympics, Seleznyova and Makarov won the bronze medal. In 1985 they won silver at both the European and World Championships and they were European Champions in 1987 and 1989. They also won silvers at the 1988 and 1990 European Championships and a bronze at the 1988 World Championships. Domestically they were Soviet champions in 1985 and 1988-1990. They retired from competitive skating after the 1990 season and started to work as figure skating coaches, at first in Russia and later in the United States. Makarov and Seleznyova married and later coached at the Ice Time Sports Complex in Newburgh, New York. Their daughter Kseniya is a singles skater who was selected to the Russian 2010 Olympic team.
