Biography

Franciszek Bujak was a Polish cross-country skier, activist, and ski manufacturer. Bujak learnt carpentry while at school and began to make skis. As a military man Bujak served in the Polish Legions (1914–15), the Austro-Hungarian Army (1916–17), and in the Polish Army (1918–20). Bujak trained soldiers and participated in mountaineering training.

As a skier Bujak was a three-time Polish champion. He won the 18 kilometres cross-country title in 1920, the Nordic combined in 1921, and the 50 kilometres cross-country in 1927. Bujak competed in the 18 kilometres at the 1924 Chamonix Olympics where he finished in 27th place. Bujak also competed in the Nordic combined but he only completed the cross-country element and did not start the ski jump. He was also scheduled to compete in the standalone ski jump event but again he did not start.

In 1926 Bujak became the owner of his own ski production and repair shop. He later became an international ski judge.
