Biography

Cross-country skier Alf-Gerd Deckert represented East Germany at the 1980 Lake Placid Winter Games and finished ninth over 30 km as his best result. Domestically, he won the East German nationals with the relay of SC Dynamo Klingenthal in 1978-80, and also individually over 15 km in 1980. Deckert married swimmer Petra Thümer, but they stayed together for only a short time. His brother Manfred participated as a ski jumper at the 1980 Winter Olympics.
