Biography

Robert Frank lived in his hometown Basel and worked as a painter, graphic artist and sculptor. From 1916-18, he made an apprenticeship as a sculptor but worked in the Basel telegraph office until 1932. Subsequently, Frank returned to his art studies at the Basel vocational school. In later years, he made study trips to Paris and Italy. Frank worked mainly as a woodcutter producing landscapes and figurative motifs; in addition, he painted in oil and watercolor and produced sculptures.
